My Sister Karen Came to Visit

Okay, not just for the kids, but for me too, there is nothing better than when Karen comes to visit. Sometimes, the two of us are like oil and water or a bridge across a lake coming together and meeting in the middle only to separate moments later (it usually takes a few days before this happens), but the kids have more fun than imagined and I usually laugh a

laugh at least once while she is here. She gets me, which I think might have something to do with the fact that she is my sister.

Oh, before I continue and to not leave anyone out. I do have another sister. Excuse me for a moment…”Hey Jaaaaaaanice!” I don’t talk about her much because she never comes to visit me, but she does call often.

lost in the woods

I talked about Karen before. She’s the Cool Aunt and because she’s so cool, we decided to take her to one of our favorite places to spend the day roaming through the wilderness and getting “lost” in the woods. We visit this quiet place nestled in the woods often. You might remember when we went there here and the other time we went there here.

beautiful lake forest

It is a state park open to anyone, but also our quiet little oasis because hardly anyone is ever there whenever we visit. There are no complaints because we get to see serene sights like this one.

There are also a lot of beautiful and delicate sights like this one.

Leave it to us to “bust” loose and bring an end to all of that tranquility, because that is just what we do. Bears and any other wild animals, look out because we’re about to steal your scene.

Just to let you know, whenever Karen gets this look on her face, something is about to happen. I know her too well. Really, I don’t think it’s because she’s bored, but rather that there has been to much down time; not enough action going on. Could she really be bored?

If she pauses long enough, then Karen knows it is only a matter of minutes before one of the others is bound to join in the idea of impending mischief. It’s is just a way of building up more ammunition for her mission; bringing the rowdy out of my children.

This is where the explaining starts and the reasoning as to why she and the children should be allowed to do whatever it is she thinks they should be doing other than being well behaved children and an aunt who maintains my discipline values.

She’s smiling because she knows I’m processing everything she just said and will probably just agree because my head is on the verge of exploding wondering where her wild ideas come from. She’s got me!

…and so it goes. The silliness and fun begins.

Before you accuse me of being too strict, I want you to know that this was one of her more mild escapades. When you’re out in the wilderness, there is only so much mischief one can get into. If you have children, then you might want to keep that in mind.

It’s so wonderful that you have a sister (or two) that brings such joy to your family.

    Keya,

She’s (they both are) quite special.

Now I know why we enjoy talking to each other so much. Your sister, my sister, your crazy kids, my crazy kids, and of course the husbands. Sounds like you had a great time with your sister. Mine can get me to do some crazy things too.

    Rana,

Yes, those little sisters make us go against everything we know is right. Often when we do, there is so much fun to be had. I can’t imagine the trouble we would get into if she were around all of the time. Yes, I think you and I have quite a bit in common which is so cool.
