What was I Thinking?

Three weeks ago I made a hair brain decision to fulfill a commitment I made at the beginning of the year. Rather than making a New Year’s resolution – a promise to change, I set goals, which require a plan for achievement. One of them was to get my body back into a healthier physical and nutritional state.

I started the year off just fine. In the midst of my progress came the changing weather which prevented me from getting outdoors more. I also spent more time in the kitchen cooking (and eating) all of my favorite dishes and baked goods and life continued, which just led to more excuses for not getting up and out to work out as planned.

In my small town, there are actually two gyms. Mind you, it wouldn’t be known by looking at many of the residents here, but somewhere there are enough exercise geeks living in the area to keep the gyms going. While flipping through one of our local newspapers (where I now work as a freelance writer – blogging pays off a little bit), I spotted an advertisement for a Beach Body Bootcamp. I figured this was my chance to get back “on the road” and get my body back in shape.

On the first day, we tested for a starting point so we could see our progress at the end. On the second day, we worked out for the first time and it wasn’t a nice day at the beach. I’m glad to say that he kicked my butt just a little bit and three weeks in, I’m still loving every bit of muscle ache (the good kind) I feel the day after because my body is still numb the day of the workout every workout.

I also joined one of the gyms which is walking or if I want to get there a little faster, running distance from our home. My current weight is around 130 pounds, but there is a little more on me that shouldn’t jiggle the way it does. A good weight for me has always been around 125 pounds.

I’m not looking for weight reduction as much as I’m looking for toning and a little muscle building.

I have also started reducing the amount of my sugar in take – yeah, this will only last a while because I’m too weak and a slave to sugar; for now.

Wish me success because I’m sure going to need it. It will be great preparation for the race Lily and I are going to run later this year.

Now, I know what I was thinking. I am working on one goal down because I want it real badly. I can’t yet see the finish line, but I know it’s out there somewhere.

Have you been putting off a goal you set and know you need to put a bullet in it (I just love Sarah).

I enjoyed reading this blog, it was funny(the cartoon adds to it) and it provided some very good advice.

We are in the same place. I’m about 135 6 months after the baby. I was 130 before I got pregnant but 125 looks good on me. I am also a slave to sugar. I love to bake sweets, sweets, and more sweets! Plus I’m a Coke a Cola addict. If you stay strong and work through maybe I’ll get motivated to get on track too.
So far I’ve been taking Murphy to the park and we walk the trail every other day. Baby steps for us!

    Misty,

I didn’t realize how much weight I gained w/my first child until I looked at some pictures. It sounds like you’re doing pretty well w/your weight. Slave…I totally know what you mean. Sugar is my vice and I don’t see any way around it right now. The only reason I started working out was so I could eat as much food as I wanted (especially sweets as often as I liked).

I’m strong over here so you be strong over there. Baby steps…hmm, I’m taking a few leaps :) .

I love lots of sugar and cream with my coffee. And we do lots of pasta and baked goods. *sigh* Not good for the old weight… that and getting older. A good weight for me is 127 and right now I am the biggest I have ever been in my life (not counting being prego)– 146! Ugh. I even snore now. Definitely need to start working out! First thing in the morning!

I’ve been off of sugar for the past couple of months all though sometimes I do indulge. I’ve been exercising everyday at home. I don’t like to work out in front of people, I have a phobia. I’ve been losing about a pound a week. I’m just trying to get healthy again. You have some great goals keep it up.

    Rana,

All I have to say is what are YOU thinking as far as being off of sugar for soooooooo long. Are you Misty’s sister? I think I’ll claim her as mine. I tried to go four days w/o sugar and had such a difficult time. It is sad, I know. Congratulations on making it that long!

It is good that you are working out somewhere. I wish you success w/your continued program. Don’t you feel great w/the improvement of health and flexibility of motion?
