HOw funny! My kids rooms look very similar! Since we've remodeled the house it's really neat and organized, but the kids rooms are a disaster. I need to come up with a good system. If everything has a place and the kids know where that place is, then cleanup time is better for us. My youngest boy just shoves everything under the bed or in the closet.....
Thanks for your warm spring wishes!

I'm right there with you. Tinky girl is my messy one. I will sit with her and tell her let's start with the clothes. Put all the clothes in a pile and we will put them in the hamper. Next let's pick up all the toys, put them where they belong. Third the books, they belong on the bookshelf. Then all the garbage scrap paper and broken pieces of toys or crayon. It takes a while, but I want her to understand this needs to be done. I try to get both of the kids to pick up before they go to bed. Umm where do I sign up for the Yellers trying to Reform club?

Rana,

I hate to say it, but it may be a girl thing as far as the clothes go. Lily is like Diana Ross. Do you remember when she changed clothes a billion times while hosting the American Music Awards (dating myself)? Well, that's Lily. Also, River and Lily both like me to tell them step by step what they should clean up.

I'll mail you an application for the "Yellers Trying to Reform" club.

Routine? Schedule? Hah! Saturday is supposedly the designated kid room cleaning day at my house. Wren is pretty good about getting it done, and I organize the things she can't (ok, she can, but not to my standard). The boys are another story. I refuse to help them pick up toys and I can spend up to three hours just sitting in their room making sure they stay on task. It's exhausting and it takes every last bit of patience/strength I have to not just throw everything away. The latest plan is that they will put away the toys, and put the clothes and books into piles which I will sort and organize. I also set the timer for 15 minute increments and check their progress. That seems to be working a bit. Another prob is that Robin does not want Finch to help *at all*. Haven't figured that one out yet. BTW, I'm a yeller too. Yellers Trying To Reform, unite! LOL.

Dee,

I’m going to have to come up w/something; better routine or at least a schedule. I know we’re going to have to let our kids learn and our standards are going to have to be lowered, just a bit, until they do. It is that waiting period until they learn that causes me to jump in and do it myself. It is exhausting! Right now, we’re working on making up their beds. Why don’t they see the same lumps I do?

I do the timer thing, but by the time I do the timer, it is their last chance. Maybe I’ll try it like you do and check back periodically. That is interesting about Robin w/Finch. Ask why. I’m curious too.

Oh, you didn’t hear… Yellers Trying To Reform meets weekly at my house.
