This Storm was for Real

Earlier in January, we experienced our first winter storm. It was going to be a big one! Stocking up the refrigerator and freezer was encouraged as well not leaving your home unless you absolutely had to was warned. As a newbie to a winter storm, I was slightly frightened (hee), because I wasn’t sure what to expect. On the other hand, I was a little excited because I had secretly been looking forward to the snow that had been promised for weeks.

The storm came, passed through our little town with a very light, miniscule, teeniest I’ve ever seen light dusting of snow, and raced out of here just as quickly as it had come. There was hardly any evidence, the next day, that snow had even visited. It was a beautiful sight, but I was a little disappointed because there was barely enough for the kids to build a snowman, run through, or just watch hours upon hours of it falling.

Last week, when the forecast threatened snow again, I decided they were going to have to make a believer out of me. It was cold outside, but nothing out of the ordinary compared to what we had been experiencing the past few days.

When I woke up the next morning, this is what I saw.

Hmm. It looked a little like snow, but we weren’t too sure. It’s always good to check.

You can never be too sure.

I started wondering if we had enough eggs because I hadn’t heeded to the warnings.

Immediate warmth filled me when I remembered the pots of soup I had cooked earlier in the week.

I was also thankful for the peach cobbler I had made to prevent any breakdown in my daily functioning due to a sugar withdrawal. My sugar cravings would be easily satisfied and my sanity would remain during however long we would be “trapped” in our home.

Canyon got the right idea and enjoyed the snow as much as he could. He lasted longer outside this time around. I had to eventually make him come inside.

River bundled up well, but with his lack of movement, I wasn’t sure how long it would be before he started getting cold.

Despite the fact we lost power for a few hours during the early morning and our cable disappeared for a while, it was a wonderful sight to see the little snow that we did.

Our power eventually returned and with some ingenuity, a little patience, and a heat gun, our cable reception was soon returned also.

broken ice

I just loved the look of this broken ice that had fallen off of the branches on a tree.
