Sick Days

The bug or whatever it is hit our home this week. Believe me, it wasn’t pretty. It spent a few days with each of the children and eventually moved on out. Yes! I managed to nurse three children back to health and was never touched by “the bug.” I am thankful for my new found resistance. After all, I’m the mommy and can’t afford to get sick. I will say that the thought of snuggling and sleeping all day long, undisturbed, in the bed under the comforters sounds quite wonderful, but I would rather do so without all of the “sicky” stuff.

I had a full lesson plan for school ready for us to start this week. We managed to get a few things completed on a few days, but the week continued rather quietly. There was a little more resting and a lot more quiet throughout the house, which is often to be expected (and with some mommy guilt – appreciated) when your children are not in full form and under the weather.

There were also some memorable moments spent together.

Mommies do a great job cuddling and reading to their children, but there is something extra special about a big brother taking the time to read to you.

Mommies sometimes read a book word for word.

Big brothers sometimes do the same, but sometimes big brothers also throw in a few words that are not there and make a regular old book just that bit more exciting.

Mommies can do that too, but it’s just not the same.

We will catch up and get back to life next week. I’m not sure that I really miss the running through the house, the yelling, the loudness, three busy children all at once, but it’s our normalcy and it’s not so bad.

Our county schools have been closed since last Friday due to snow. The students just returned to school on Wednesday.

Ssh! Don’t say anything because I didn’t tell Lily. Since she wasn’t sick, she has been in school all week.
