Rain, Rain, Go Away

There is nothing that can ruin a child’s day more than when it rains. Right now, Lily is crying, River is frustrated, and Canyon hasn’t a clue as to what is going on. Actually, he’s quite content playing with his puzzles. Under normal circumstances, my children like the rain. They enjoy hanging at the window sill and watching it fall, but not as much as they enjoy running around barefoot, outside dodging the raindrops. River and Lily even enjoy the banging and clanging of thunder which surprisingly has unnerved me on more than one occasion and has caused Canyon a few moments of concern.

We all really do like the rain. Our excitement is building as we anticipate the changing of the seasons, which probably includes a lot of rain. The problem arose today because I have three children who have been house bound while they recovered from the flu. They were freed during that period to experience the great outdoors, but that time was abbreviated by the rain that just keeps falling.

Since then, their bikes have been patiently waiting for someone to ride them. We made several attempts (a whole lot) to go for a ride today and each time the sky appeared clear, it was soon followed by clapping thunder which was quickly completed by a few buckets of rain. Needless to say, we never made it outside for a bike ride.

We will try again tomorrow. I don’t know if I can stand to see sad faces another day. Rain, rain go away!
