I Didn’t Get Enough

I woke. I piddled. I drove for seven hours. I thought I wasn’t going to make it. I knew I had to make it. I made it and it was wonderful. After nearly 20 years, the love affair continues and Depeche Mode has me for life. What makes a great concert? Seeing a band I totally enjoy, knowing and singing all of the lyrics (hey, I should have been on stage singing duet or at least as a back-up singer), going with my sister Karen who’s also a fan, sitting next to some other really cool people who love the band almost (I’m their #1 fan, Karen’s their #2 fan) as much as we do, and rockin’.

All I can say is it was worth the drive and the stress I experienced as I kept checking to be sure I hadn’t left the tickets at home 15 minutes away…two hours away…five hours away, and also wondering if I was going to make it on time. We pulled into the Lakewood Amphitheatre (Atlanta) at 7:45pm and had time to spend a ridiculous amount of money on some food because in all of the rush, there was no time to stop and get real food.

The opening act was ah…ah…man, it must be hard being an opening act. Whomever they were, they were very entertaining. One thing I noticed is that concert going sure has changed. Back in the day, people used to make video and take pictures undercover because your taping tool (i.e. still camera, pen – for the spy types, mini-video-camera, etc.) would be confiscated. Last night, it seemed as if everyone had a camera phone and when they weren’t talking on it, they were taking pictures. I joined in and got quite a few myself. Now, if I can only figure out how to remove them from my phone.

After about two hours of singing and two encores they managed to leave me hanging just a little bit because they didn’t sing “Just Can’t Get Enough.” They must have known, because I didn’t get enough. Here is looking forward to their next tour and thank goodness for videos. I love this song!

If you’re attending an event at the Lakewood Amphitheatre
Just a few notes for anyone attending a concert/event at Lakewood. The amphitheatre is awesome. It has ample room between the rows of seats. People could pass in front of me (or behind me because I stood – danced my butt off – for the whole concert) without causing disruption. If you want reserved seating under the roof, then don’t purchase a seat past row PP.

Also, drive through to the theatre parking area before you park outside of the theatre in the paid parking lots. There were quite a few paid parking lots outside and the attendants of those lots kept telling all of us stuck in the traffic jam, that there weren’t anymore parking spaces in the amphitheatre lot. One lot was $10 and the rest were $20. I almost fell for it, but decided to drive through. When we arrived in the amphitheatre parking lot, there were parking spaces for days and they were all FREE!

DM is playing here tonight (Tampa)… I loved them for ever and ever. It’s my birthday and I so wish I was going but we don’t have a sitter. And I’m sick. Guess it wasn’t meant to be. But I’m glad you got to go!

Sounds like a great time! I haven’t been to a good concert in ages and ages.
