Spill It: Jennifer Branch of Baby Inspirations {closed}

I cannot think of a better way to start off this feature than with inspiration from Jennifer Branch, a mommy of four, who uses words of love and inspiration to express her feelings for the blessing she received – a child. Baby Inspirations, based in Lake Almanor, CA, has been creating gifts and “inspired wear” for infants and toddlers for almost two years. They offer 100% cotton clothing made in the USA and use fair trade suppliers for their line of organic onsies and separates.

M&HM: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Jennifer: An Actress

M&HM: What are you now?
Jennifer: I am mother, wife, author, inspired woman… a mama of all trades!

M&HM: What is your educational background?
Jennifer: Two years of college completed.

M&HM: What is your professional background?
Jennifer: I’ve been a bank teller, bank operations manager, bookkeeper, and an office manager.

M&HM: How did you fund your business?
Jennifer: Funded by family and others who believe in my idea and me.

M&HM: Is this your full-time job (besides being a mommy)?
Jennifer: Yes.

M&HM: What inspired you to start your business and what inspires you to continue?
Jennifer: I was inspired by sheer gratitude. I was so grateful to have my new little angel. I wanted to let the world know in a very visual way how cherished and loved she is to us. Then it just came to me and here I am still following that original inspiration. At times, it is difficult to keep moving forward, but I have to keep looking at my bigger picture. I ultimately would like this venture to be able to fund other ventures helping children with issues like self respect, being a friend, kindness, and humanity.

M&HM: What obstacles did you experience when you started and how did you overcome?
Jennifer: Funding, funding, funding! I was inspired to create a business which requires lots of materials. Furthermore, I created a business standard of quality, humanity (meaning no sweat shop suppliers) and USA manufactured garments. This meant more $$$ for my start up and operating cost. I put together a business plan, an investment return plan and “took it to the streets” so to speak. I contacted mostly family and was blessed by a fantastic response. I had to just do it and not be afraid of rejection or success. Staying at home with my new baby was the biggest motivator to get over myself!

M&HM: What is your current business challenge (and solution)?
Jennifer: My current business challenges are marketing and funding (still). I know that one done successfully will in turn help the other. I am currently reading books on how to successfully market an Internet business. I have several ideas for 2009 for places to market for “free.” I constantly seek out people who are successful in their business and ask, “how they did it?” It helps to talk about what you are doing and what your goals are for your business whenever possible for you never know which person may lead you to your next connection.

M&HM: How do you balance family and business?
Jennifer: I have four kids, three grade school aged and one toddler – so balance is a challenge. I do most of my work after they go to bed. I have a rule that I only do these three nights a week. I work like mad during nap time! My family always comes first; I suppose that is part of the reason why you don’t see my items in stores all over the country….yet!

M&HM: What is your favorite motivational quote or verse?
Jennifer: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” AND “Thoughts become things….choose good ones.”

M&HM: What is your favorite book?
Jennifer: The Success Principles by Jack Canfield and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

M&HM: What is your professional goal for the next year?
Jennifer: My goal is to be featured in several parenting magazines and double my monthly business. My ultimate goal is to be on Oprah.

M&HM: What one piece of advice do you have for other mommies wanting to start their own business?
Jennifer: Get over your fear. Sometimes you just have to leap with faith knowing that you will have a place to land. The road may not be easy, but it will be worth the journey!

M&HM: What is the best piece of advice you ever received (personal or professional) that keeps you going?
Jennifer: Fear accomplishes nothing AND you cannot receive unless you ask first, after all, how are others to know what it is you need???

M&HM: Where is your favorite place to spend time with your family in northern California?
Jennifer: Anywhere here in Lake Almanor.

M&HM: Thank you Jennifer for your continued inspiration!
