Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade

Guilty? Does strolling through Target give you an adrenaline rush? Do you dream of wearing the latest fashion fad? Well, then this post may not be for you; or maybe it could be. You can love all of that and still be a fan of Etsy and other concepts like it that promote the love of craft, the art of handmade, and sometimes the uniqueness of an item that cannot be found anywhere else. You may have more of a tendency to treat these items as special because they are. There is nothing wrong with mass production, but there is something special knowing that you have an item someone took particular time creating and designing “just for you.”

Etsy is not only a great find for the creative person, but also for anyone looking for something they never even dreamed of. It gives the creative individual, with particular ability for design and unique style of handmade items, but sometimes limited production funds, access to an immediate audience and potential customer base. It is a great opportunity for the creatively challenged (as shown by my artwork above) to find and buy something unique while also connecting with the maker of the items they are buying. This has resulted in the building of a community that appreciates and values handmade.

I’m rather partial to handmade items, which is one of the reasons I like to promote people who make them. They’re not in it for the money, but rather for the love of the art and that means the consumer gets the best of the best. A few of the non-Etsy companies I like are grayc glass which specializes in fused glass creations, and Craftsbury Kids, which I unexpectedly won some beautiful items from; I registered to win one thing and received a box full of goodies that were all made specialy and specifically for me! A couple of Etsy shops I like are Chic Beads by Germaine, My Bella Bows, and Fairy Wonderful, which sells both from Etsy and its own Web site and has the cutest tutus.

If you have an idea, but are lacking the skill to create it, then Alchemy may be the answer for you. Describe and present your idea and the “creatively skilled” bid to bring your vision to reality. When was the last time you were able to walk into a Walmart and receive that type of customer service? Strolling through Etsy will take you to a new level of the shopping experience. Handmade, unique, and quality can be creative, quite quirky, and affordable. Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.

If you like handmade too, then stop by on Sundays to see what Groovy Green Giveaways are being hosted throughout the Blogosphere.
