Christmas Lodge {review & giveaway}

I am so ready for Christmas that I am even looking forward to the little bit of snow (like here and here) that we have gotten in the past years. Yep! I said it, “come on Christmas…come on snow.”

Along with the great expectation of the season – delicious food and festive music – comes some good movie watching and I have already seen two great Christmas, family friendly movies that have only heightened my excitement for the upcoming celebration.

Christmas Lodge is Thomas Kinkade on the screen and what I mean by that is if you are familiar with his magnificent artwork that draws you in and makes you want to be there, then that is exactly how Christmas Lodge makes you feel. The spirit of the season, family, faith, holiday traditions, and preserving the past all come together in this adorable movie that you will enjoy with your family and will want to make a family tradition to watch in forthcoming years.

On a weekend getaway to the mountains, Mary stumbles upon the Christmas lodge after rescuing a little girl who turns out to be the daughter of the owner (Jack) of the lodge which has fallen into disrepair over the years. Immediately upon entering the lodge, memories of many Christmases spent there with her family pass through her mind as she learns of Jack’s vision to return the Christmas Lodge to “her glory.” The only thing stopping him is the lack of funds.

Determined to salvage a place that had such a tremendous impact on her family, Mary uses her professional skills for building restoration, enlist the building construction skills of her family, and partners with Jack to make the lodge a place where other families can come and enjoy, as her family did, and make new memories. As Mary helps Jack rebuild a family treasure close to his heart, she also opens her heart to true love.

This movie is a wonderful pick for all family members and made for a great family movie night for us. Mary’s close relationship with her grandfather, who actually inspires her to work on the project despite its challenges, is one built on love and hope, a mutual respect for the outdoors, and the belief in the miracles of God.

Oh, and the romance. Never did it make me blush, but it was still sweet. It was just the way you want it to be when you are watching a movie with your children.

    When we were young my mum presented each of us with our “own” Christmas decoration for the tree. The only person allowed to place the decoration on the tree was the owner. Even to this day (when my brothers and I are in our 40′s) our ornaments are placed aside waiting for us to visit and place them on her tree. The grandchildren also have “their own special” ornament to place on Grandma’s tree now too. We have started the same tradition with our children and have added decorations in honour of loved ones who are no longer with us so that many of the decorations on our tree represent a loved one. Sadly as we now live in another country mum places my families ornaments on her tree for us but tells us it makes her feels as though a little bit of us are with her at her home at Christmas.

    A couple of years ago, the week before Christmas two of my children came down with strep throat. My husband took them to the ER, they got shots, and the next day they felt much better. By the next morning, I was sick. Not just sick- I couldn’t get out of bed sick! So, that evening, my husband took me to the ER that night. I didn’t get a shot. I didn’t come home!

    I was in the hospital until late Christmas eve!

    Lowell had to buy the rest of the presents, wrap everything, shop for dinner, make dinner, you get the idea.

    It was a very untraditional Christmas!

    we always read the Bible story together – it’s a tradition my parents started when I was young and now I want to continue it.

    My favorite tradition that we are carrying on with our children from my childhood is Christmas night we would read the Christmas story from Luke. We would all be sitting in my Grandparents house on the floor and usually my uncle would read it. One year I memorized it word for word and got to share it in front of our whole extended family.
    Now with our boys we are adding another tradition for fun, we are getting Christmas pj’s each year that we put on Christmas Eve and when they wake up in the morning they get to open their stockings while in there pjs.
    Would so love to add this movie to our collection. And will add if you havn’t seen the Christmas Child with Meghan Fallows (the one who played on Anne of Green Gables) you would love it!

    This looks like a lovely film. My favorite Christmas tradition with my kids is having a scavenger hunt for a Christmas book or movie to open on Christmas eve. Then we have a yummy supper and read/watch the present they got!
