The storms came this weekend and of course, the power went out not once, not twice, but several times. I really shouldn’t complain because we were not affected as severely as so many other people.
Although, it really wasn’t an emergency, except for the fact that mommy needed a break, I gave each child one of the emergency flashlights and let them have at it.
I also got one for myself, cracked open a book, and enjoyed some reading by flashlight. I’ll admit it may not be the best idea to read by such minimal lighting because, you know “you can go blind,” but I did it anyway.
Now, I just have to remember to keep some spares to use when the batteries in the emergency flashlights go out.
How do you entertain yourself when the power goes out?

I hate when the power goes out esp when it’s cold, but I do love that photo and I love to read too when the power goes out.
LOL about going blind! Usually when the electricity goes out, it’s night time, so we just sleep.
I’m sorry about the storms, but that’s a great photo. Original. Love it. I’m just started ww. Come over and link up. http://weloveiowa.blogspot.com/2010/05/wordless-wednesday-beautiful-day.html. I’d love it.
Thanks for dropping by and linking up. Come back again.
I know how you feel, my power went out as well! Your blog is too cute!! Happy Wednesday!
I love reading my flashlight. I’m not sure why.
Glad you survived the storms.
My kids enjoy using flashlights without storms. It does keep them busy.
We got lucky and pretty much all of the storms that came through missed us. But I do remember a couple of years ago when the power went out for 4 days after the twin tornadoes blew through. Those were the 4 longest days of my life.
I read also, but I usually use a candle (probably not safe) and we play games.
Last time it went out for us, the Hubs was prepping to cook dinner. Talk about a challenge: cooking dinner by candlelight instead of eating it by candlelight!
Stoppin’ in via Wordless Wednesday!
God bless.
Reading or writing in my journal. I haven’t yet really had to do it with the three-year old. I’ve no idea how I would entertain him, but I’m sure a flashlight would be used!
Great idea! My kids are always begging to black out their room and play with flashlight even when there is no storm!
I always read via flashlight when the power goes out – or when my hubby wants to go to bed but I still want to read.
My kiddos love playing with the flashlights even when there is no storms too. We like to make a fire in the fire place. It’s nice and cozy.
