It’s because they have been in unknown places…because they have been through many hands…because they will slide across our kitchen table…because we will all cuddle up in bed together with them, I wipe down all of our library books before we read them.
Do you have you a behavior(s) that may seem odd to others, but makes perfect sense to you?

My stand mixer is not working well. In fact, I’ve been using my hand mixer for the past month. Ladies (and gentlemen), if you’re a cook or a baker, then you know my pain. It hurts sooooo much, but I am a survivor and until I decide on the new color of the next mixer I get, my pain continues. In my spare time, I wrote a little something so that you too can understand how I really feel. Here is a haiku I wrote about my mixer. I think it captures truly how I feel.
A clearing of my throat…
You used to work well.
Now you are broken I’m sad.
I will replace you!
Thank you for your time and please leave your condolences in a comment.
What color would you choose? I’m leaning towards empire red.

Believe it or not River really did want this. He’s been asking beggin and pleadin’ for Darling D to give him a Mohawk cut for a couple of years while.
Well, he finally got it and see, he really is happy about it.
As for me, on the other hand…well, I’m happy for him (I think that’s what I’m supposed to say), but it will probably be gone this weekend…even though ah, I’m really happy for him.
Has your son or daughter pleaded for that “awesome” haircut or hair color? Did you give in or are they still giving you gentle reminders?

You don’t have to be a homeschool mommy to appreciate this photo. River and Lily studied cursive writing this school year. I don’t know if he actually dreams about writing cursive letters when he sleeps, but apparently, he does when he plays. See, he did learn something this school year.

The storms came this weekend and of course, the power went out not once, not twice, but several times. I really shouldn’t complain because we were not affected as severely as so many other people.
Although, it really wasn’t an emergency, except for the fact that mommy needed a break, I gave each child one of the emergency flashlights and let them have at it.
I also got one for myself, cracked open a book, and enjoyed some reading by flashlight. I’ll admit it may not be the best idea to read by such minimal lighting because, you know “you can go blind,” but I did it anyway.
Now, I just have to remember to keep some spares to use when the batteries in the emergency flashlights go out.
How do you entertain yourself when the power goes out?
